Diversity is an important part of Mercado Eletrônico's culture. We believe that the plurality of people and ideas positively impacts our organizational climate and, mainly, the results of our business.
Therefore, to further increase the engagement of leaders at the Ministry of Education, we have prepared “LGBTQIA+ Pride Day, more than an event, a celebration of diversity”, and we invite those who are already recognized in this important issue:
- Jade Odara, drag queen, host and special guest
- Anna Kojo, Head of people & marketing OddZ Network
- Guilherme Nascimento, Diversity & Inclusion Leader at Volkswagen Brazil
- Lucas Senra, Head of Risk and Compliance at Shopee
- Rafael Golfe, head of Brand Experience at Heineken
The meeting took place on the morning of June 30th, at Live University, in Vila Olímpia (SP), during a delicious breakfast. All participants who were present received a special t-shirt. And those who were not present in person could interact through the live broadcast.
Hugo de Oliveira, ME event coordinator and representative of DiverseME, our diversity committee, started the event by introducing our guests.
Eduardo Nader, CEO of Mercado Eletrônico, thanked each of the guests for accepting the invitation and thanked all ME managers for attending the event, whether in person or online, reinforcing the importance of this dialogue.
Jade Odara, host of the event, explained the reason for the existence of the International LGBTQIA+ Pride Day, celebrated last Wednesday (28), and the month dedicated to diversity.
Our special guest also followed up with questions about how companies have approached the issue of diversity, especially with regard to the LGBTQIA+ community, and what are the main positive results that these initiatives have brought to companies.
Adriana Oliveira, Director of People & Management at Mercado Eletrônico, was also present on stage at the event and spoke about the ME's main initiatives related to this issue.
“We prepared this event to highlight the importance of promoting respect and appreciation of differences in our workplace. By raising awareness, we combat stereotypes, prejudices and discriminatory behaviors, creating a more welcoming and respectful environment,” said Adriana.
Armando de Vilhena, our Director of Engineering and Operations, recalled the scholarship program, DiverseDEV, which selected 30 people from all over the country to study Programming. In addition to the 100% scholarship offered, the ME hired new interns, most of whom are now employed by the company.
“Our goal with the DiverseDev program was to truly impact diverse people from all over the country. The training not only opened doors for the ME, but also for the job market as a whole for those selected. It was an incredible result, beyond my expectations,” said Armando.
To close the event, Jade Odara invited the audience and those watching to participate with questions, and took the opportunity to recall the countless challenges that still need to be faced to ensure greater representation and equality within organizations.
Until our next meeting to celebrate diversity! 🌈
