Last Thursday (10/10), the Mercado Eletrônico office in São Paulo received a visit from 37 executives from all continents.
The event was an initiative of INSEAD – Business School for the World, which aims to take its members to visit various companies around the world to bring together people, cultures and ideas, in order to develop leaders capable of transforming business and society.
Check out a little about the project and ME's role in this initiative below!
What is INSEAD – Business School for the World?
INSEAD is one of the largest and best business schools in the world. The institution's goal is to bring together people, cultures and ideas to change lives and transform organizations. The school has campuses in Europe (France), Asia (Singapore) and Abu Dhabi, and has a faculty of 135 renowned professionals from 35 different countries.
Each year, more than 1.000 participants attend the school’s MBA, Executive MBA, Master’s and Doctoral programs. In addition, more than 9.000 executives participate in the school’s executive education programs each year.
In Brazil, INSEAD partners with Dom Cabral Foundation.
Why include Brazil in your study schedule?
Brazil is the third largest emerging economy and ninth in the world ranking.
Like other emerging markets (China, India, Russia and South Africa), the country offers a great field of study to identify opportunities and challenges in embracing digital transformation.
Furthermore, Brazil also has the city of São Paulo, which is the largest economic and industrial center in the southern hemisphere, and is second only to New York in the number of offices of multinational companies.
During the visit to the city, the course members visited 14 national and international companies, including the headquarters of Mercado Eletrônico, in Vila Olímpia.
The advantage of emerging economies over the world
One of the advantages that the emerging market has, compared to the rest of the world, is the lack of legacy and we explain why.
Many companies, considered mature in developed countries, have more than 20 years of culture, mentality, business models, work habits and technological scenarios that are not necessarily conducive to operating with agile innovation approaches and methodologies.
This experience makes professionals, who have worked in the same way for decades, develop more resistance to changes and innovative concepts.
In this way, emerging markets, which suffer from a lack of infrastructure, end up becoming great enthusiasts in the adoption and implementation of more modern and advanced methods.
The technique of bringing new methodologies to emerging markets has been used for a few decades and has proven to be very efficient in creating and overcoming developing economies.
INSEAD in the Electronic Market
Eduardo Nader, CEO of Mercado Eletrônico, was responsible for welcoming the 37 executives. During his two-hour presentation, the executive spoke about the culture, strategies and agile methodologies applied within the company, as well as the challenges of being an entrepreneur in the Brazilian market.
At the end, Felipe Monteiro, senior affiliate professor of strategy at INSEAD who is accompanying the executives in Brazil, thanked them for their hospitality and was surprised to learn that ME is truly a company that puts the value of “people first” into practice.
