This Wednesday (09/10), the Pró-Sangue Foundation came to the Mercado Eletrônico office and brought all the equipment necessary for the company's employees to donate blood with great comfort and convenience.
The action, called “Dia do Bem”, is in its 5th edition and, in 2019, broke records. In addition to ME employees, other companies in the commercial building also participated in the solidarity movement, such as Cargo X, CM Capital Markets, and Natulab, totaling 134 donations.
Why is it important to donate?
The need for blood is constant in hospitals. The number of accidents and people who need transfusions is much higher than what blood banks can provide and collect from volunteers. And blood transfusions are extremely important, as they make the difference between life and death for hundreds of patients every day.
People's contributions and solidarity are essential to keeping the supply full, and it is important to remember that there is no need for a special reason to be a donor. Donating blood is an act of love for others, and in the end, it gives you a good feeling of having done your part and helped someone.
Who can donate?
Can anyone be a donor? Unfortunately, no. You must meet the following requirements to be eligible to donate blood. In addition to having slept well the night before, you must also:
- Be in good health.
- Weigh at least 50 kilos.
- Be between 16 and 69 years old.
- Male donors must have had their last donation at least 60 days ago.
- Female donors must have done the action at least 90 days ago.
- Be well fed (avoid fatty foods in the last 4 hours before donation).
And who cannot donate?
The main criteria that invalidate blood donation are:
- Having had hepatitis after the age of 11.
- Having had the flu or diarrhea in the last 7 days.
- Tattoo/permanent makeup in the last 12 months.
- Have a risk situation for STDs.
- Tooth extraction, root canal treatment or braces maintenance in the last 7 days.
- Pregnancy, 90 days after normal delivery and 180 days after cesarean section.
- Consumption of alcoholic beverages in the 12 hours prior to donation.
A special corner in ME
The Social Area of the Mercado Eletrônico office was dedicated to receiving Pró-Sangue – Hemocentro de São Paulo. The space was reserved for the entire day for the event and had registration, screening, research, collection and coffee stations.
All this to ensure that all volunteers were well treated and, therefore, felt the pleasure of doing good for others.
Action Numbers
The blood bank was available from 8:30 am until 16 pm and broke the record for all editions.
In total, there were 134 donors, who provided 99 bags of blood and could save up to 396 lives through solidarity and love for others.
We would like to thank all the volunteers who donated a little time and love to those in need. More to come next year!
